In response

Today in class we did a 15 minute writing exercise in response to the racist treatment of the jena 6, and the scottsboro boys during the 1930s. Here is what I came up with in those 15 minutes…

cant escape claims of rape or a fight
might never get out jail even with a fight
bet system woulda let you off if yo face was white

black folks chances always be slim to none
white folks convict you of wrong when you aint did none
guess there aint nothing new under the sun

Got the blues? REPOST

been writing a lot of blues poems lately, i think the rhythm and the structure of the form is drawing me to it.

monopoly
been 10 months since you vacated didnt even pass go
10 months since you up and left i didnt know which way you go
didnt give no two weeks notice i just come home to a swingin do’

you wanna ease back into my arms real slow an’ nice
tryna roll me over wit smiles fake as pink bills, grinnin so nice
but my lovin spent, cant afford no cheap thrills so honey no dice

untitled
I cried nightly for you
while you lay in his arms for months
couldnt admit your cheatin guilt
so you pile mud on my name for months
came back grinnin fake smiles
too bad i couldnt see through your front

told lie after lie
cant believe some of the shit you done
you kept tellin lie after lie
still i took you back after all you said and done
but i cant take no mo snake kisses
cuz you sour my smile wit yo lemon tongue
