Personal statements

I’ve been doing just about anything and everything to avoid finishing my personal statement for law school. I have about half of it done, the easy half in my opinion, that says nothing about why I want to go to law school or why a law school should accept me.

I’m curently on my seventh draft of the statement and still writing about writing. One of my old professros told me the statement was a convincing anecdote about why I should go get an mfa or something, but doesn’t express any tangible desire to law school aside from saying thats what i want to do.

Truth is I do want to be a writer, I am a writer, I’m just a writer who happens to want to write and rewrite laws using my linguistic talents. Yet I continue to struggle with how I am going to convince the phantom admissions boards accross America that a candid and at times overly self-reflective poet from Richmond should be a law student at their university. How to best showcase my passion for poetry and writing as some sort of segway into the legal field is the task ahead and I am sure to fail if i don’t try so try i shall.
